Frequently Asked Questions

SWP (Systematic Withdrawal Plan) is a facility that allows you to withdraw a fixed amount from your mutual fund at regular intervals (monthly/quarterly). It is ideal for creating a regular income in retirement.
SWP from equity or balanced funds can provide higher returns than FD interest, while keeping the principal invested and growing. However, unlike FD, SWP returns are market-linked.
Each SWP redemption is treated as a partial sale of mutual fund units. Short-term capital gains (held < 1 year) are taxed at 15%, and long-term gains above ₹1 lakh are taxed at 10%.
If the withdrawal rate exceeds the return rate, the corpus will eventually deplete. If returns are higher than withdrawals, the corpus may actually grow over time. Our calculator shows the remaining balance.
A commonly used rule of thumb is the 4% rule — withdraw up to 4% of your corpus annually for a 30-year retirement horizon. Adjust based on your specific return assumptions.
Yes, most mutual fund houses allow you to modify or pause your SWP amount at any time without penalty.
