What is this Calculator?
The Income Tax Calculator helps you compare tax liability under the Old and New Tax Regimes for FY 2026-27. Budget 2026 kept the FY 2025-26 slabs unchanged, so the same rates apply this year. With the government's push towards the New Tax Regime as the default, it's important to calculate which regime saves you more tax based on your income and deductions.
How to Use
1
Enter Annual Income: Enter your total gross annual income (e.g. ₹12,00,000).
2
View Results: The calculator instantly shows your tax under both the Old Regime and New Regime, and highlights which one saves more tax.
3
Compare: Use the savings figure to decide which regime to opt for when filing your ITR.
Frequently Asked Questions
The New Tax Regime (introduced in FY 2020-21 and revised in FY 2023-24) offers lower tax rates but without most deductions like 80C, HRA, LTA. It is now the default regime from FY 2025-26.
The Old Tax Regime allows deductions under 80C (up to ₹1.5L), HRA, LTA, standard deduction (₹50,000), home loan interest (₹2L) and more — reducing your taxable income significantly.
The New Regime is generally better for those with fewer deductions (income up to ₹12.75L is tax-free under New Regime with standard deduction). The Old Regime is better if you have large deductions like 80C, HRA, and home loan interest.
Under the New Regime (FY 2025-26 onwards), income up to ₹12,00,000 (₹12,75,000 including standard deduction) is effectively tax-free due to the enhanced rebate under Section 87A of up to ₹60,000. Under the Old Regime, the basic exemption limit is ₹2.5 lakh.
Yes, a standard deduction of ₹75,000 is available under the New Tax Regime from FY 2025-26 onwards (increased from ₹50,000 in Budget 2025).
Yes, our calculator includes Health & Education Cess at 4% on the tax amount, which is applicable under both regimes.
