Frequently Asked Questions

Percentage of a number = (Value × Percentage) ÷ 100. E.g., 20% of 500 = (500 × 20) ÷ 100 = 100.
Percentage Change = ((New Value − Old Value) ÷ Old Value) × 100. If positive, it is a percentage increase. If negative, it is a percentage decrease.
Formula: (Part ÷ Whole) × 100. E.g., what % is 150 of 500? → (150 ÷ 500) × 100 = 30%.
Discounted Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount% ÷ 100). E.g., 20% discount on ₹500 → ₹500 × 0.8 = ₹400.
Percentage = (Total Marks Obtained ÷ Maximum Marks) × 100. E.g., 450 out of 600 → (450 ÷ 600) × 100 = 75%.
A percentage point is the arithmetic difference between two percentages. E.g., if interest rate rises from 6% to 8%, it increased by 2 percentage points (but 33.3% in relative terms).
